Born and raised in North India, Gunkirat Sachdeva, better known as Kirat, moved to Australia when he was just 18. Leaving his friends and family behind, Kirat came to Australia all alone and with the same dream as all migrants - better opportunities and a better life. After a career in a popular food chain store and over half a decade as a store manager, his passion for hospitality lead Kirat to start his own business. Hangout On Hay came about when he was inspired by the previous tenant's Turkish restaurant. The hand-made decor is featured throughout and is paired with a Moroccan boho atmosphere to entice locals and become the go-to spot to hang out on Hay. Knowing what it means to be a small family business, Kirat sources most of his ingredients from other local stores and ensures all his produce, vegetables, and bread are fresh. Kirat loves talking to his customers and is constantly adapting and updating the menu where he can. Whether it's a suggestion about a dish or finding inspiration from seasonal produce, there is something for everyone on the menu.
